@devonthink – the new #evernote

Apple Productivity

I have previously posted my frustrations about Evernote (see my previous post here) and I have been looking for a suitable alternative for some time.

The reason I was a Premium subscriber was due to the significant numbers of notes, documents, images and sketches and web links that I manage. A lot of this information covers my personal interests and projects, such as blogging, photography and 4×4 trailing but also includes my professional life as as Architect and former business owner.

I had heard about DEVONthink before from tech podcasts and the internet but also perceived this as being a specialist application that was somewhat dated given the current focus on the cloud and mobile devices, which I have fully embraced.

That is until the recent updates and revisions reinvented (for me) it as a fully integrated OS and iOS solution.

DEVONtechnologies are (webpage):

In the 21st century people are drowning in information. Email, instant messaging, news feeds, and of course the web. A small group of developers has taken up the fight: us.

We are developing apps based on our unique artificial intelligence technology that tame the beast. We all are Mac users by heart and are writing solely on the Mac and for OS X and iOS.

We’ve named our artificial intelligence (AI) technology after the Devonian period as for us it marks the departure into a new age. All our commercial apps are based on this cool piece of software that allows to manage huge numbers of documents by analyzing and comparing them as well as finding relationships between them in an instant.

The applications

DEVONtechnologies offer the following solutions depending on your needs:

  • DEVONthink Personal
  • DEVONthink Pro
  • DEVONthink Pro Office

These are all Mac OS applications. For iOS they also have:

  • DEVONthink To Go (which is what I am using to write this blog post on an iPad Pro)

The solution

“DEVONthink Pro Office is your Mac paperless office. It stores all your documents, helps you keep them organized, and presents you with what you need to get the job done.

  • Keep your data together in one place
  • Scan your paper, archive your email
  • Let artificial intelligence help you file your data
  • Sync your data to all your devices, fast and secure
  • Share your data with anyone, whether they use Mac or PC

I strongly encourage you to review their webpage and the videos they publish to fully explore these highly capable and versatile applications.

Look out for my next post on how I am using DEVONthink Pro Office, my preferred solution.
