The Architect’s toolkit

An Architect’s work life can be extremely varied and in my experience a typical week can involve a sketch of a new concept, drawing and document reviews and design team discussions through to client presentations and site reviews of construction progress.

The ability to carry out a site review and to record your observations while staying safe in this dangerous environment can be quite a challenge.

In the digital age there are many tools available for the professional.

ArchDaily have put together their top 12 as follows:

  1. PlanGrid
  2. Builder’s Helper – Advanced Construction Calculator
  3. Construction Manager App
  4. BIM360 Docs
  5. BIMx
  6. My Measures
  7. ArchiReport 5
  8. iHandy Level Free
  9. Site Audit Pro
  10. Project Planning Pro
  11. Fast Concrete Pad Calculator
  12. Angle Meter Pro

They also reference the excellent Morpholio Trace app which I use regularly. This application, particularly on an iPad Pro, provides you with a digital trace roll and many export and printing features.

I would also recommend SG Project Pro for a great alternative to MS Project (website)
