It is widely reported that Apple are developing augmented reality functionality in to the next generation iPhone camera.
Augmented reality (AR) is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data.
“Citing sources familiar with Apple’s plans, Business Insider says Apple’s goal is for consumers to be able point the phone at a real-world object and have that object be recognized. Apple is already working on similar technology using machine learning techniques and has built basic object recognition capabilities into the Photos app.” MacRumors
